Private University “East-European Psychoanalytical Institute” was established in 1991. It is the first institution in Russia which gives comprehensive higher education in psychology and psychoanalysis including theoretical education in psychoanalysis, training analysis and supervisions for the candidates.
Candidates are admitted annually for undergraduate and postgraduate education and training in Psychology as specialty and Clinical Psychology and Psychoanalysis as specialization.
Undergraduate education takes 5 years of full-time studies or 6 years of evening classes. In accordance with the recent changes in the Russian legislation and with the Bologna Process the education is going to be restructured into two levels: Bachelor (4 years) and Magister (3 years) courses with qualifications of Bachelor in Psychology and Magister in Psychology and Psychoanalysis.
Postgraduate education takes 3 years of evening classes or distance learning.
Graduates are granted state diploma by Russian Ministry of Education and Science in specialization Psychology (qualifications: Psychologist, Psychology Teacher) or specialization Clinical Psychology for undergraduates or Clinical Psychology and Psychoanalysis for postgraduates.
The Institute is accredited by the American National Association on Accreditation in Psychoanalysis, the European Association for Psychotherapy (Austria), the European Confederation for Psychoanalytical Psychotherapies (Austria), the Professional Psychotherapeutic League (Moscow), the Russian Psychotherapeutic Association (St-Petersburg) and other Russian and international organizations. The Institute is one of the most reputable Russian institutions in the field of psychotherapeutic and psychological training. The Institute has received numerous awards from the Council of the Russian Federation, the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, the Russian Ministry of Culture, the Governor of St-Petersburg, different scientific, educational and health committees and other state organizations and institutions.
Studies include traditional forms such as lectures, seminars, workshops and practical courses, intermediate and final papers. These traditional forms are supplemented by different innovative activities. Teaching – in Russian language.
Professional training is designed to meet the needs of psychoanalytically oriented medical psychologists. For these purposes Summer Schools, conferences and workshops are held at the Institute, and different advanced courses are provided at the regular basis.
Specialized psychological service for students has been working at the Institute since 2008.

The Institute is situated in XIX-century mansion in the historical centre of the city, in 5 minute walk from metro station Sportivnaya. Students and visitors have the access to the unique library and reading hall, the Cinema Club, Freud Dreams Museum; they can attend meetings with prominent scholars and cultural workers from Russia and other countries, which are held in the modern audiences, and be consulted by specialists of St-Petersburg Psychoanalytical Centre (Study and Methodological Centre).
